Privacy Policy for StepCounter

Introduction

StepCounter is a free browser tool for counting daily steps with device motion sensors or manual taps, setting a daily goal, and viewing simple distance and calorie estimates.

This policy explains what information is processed on your device and what (if anything) may be processed by the website host or analytics providers.

Data stored on your device

StepCounter is designed to keep your step activity private on your device. In your browser we may store:

• Daily step counts and goals for up to the last 30 days, plus the calendar dates those values belong to (via localStorage).
• Your light or dark theme preference (via localStorage).
• A language preference cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) so we can remember your locale choice.

Motion sensors

If you allow motion / device orientation access, acceleration data is processed in your browser to estimate steps while tracking is on. That sensor stream is not uploaded to StepCounter servers as part of the counter feature.

You can deny permission and still use manual +1 / +10 controls.

Accounts and payments

StepCounter does not require an account, does not offer paid plans in the current product, and does not collect billing information.

Analytics and cookies

If Google Analytics or similar tooling is later enabled, it may set cookies and process usage data under that provider’s privacy policy.

We do not use advertising pixels for the step counter itself, and we do not sell your step counts.

Hosting and logs

Like most websites, our hosting provider may process standard technical logs (for example IP address, user agent, and requested URLs) to operate, secure, and debug the site. Those logs are separate from your on-device step storage.

Estimates are not medical advice

Distance and calorie figures are rough estimates from step count. They are not medical measurements or advice.
